Elevating super pollutants on the global policy agenda

We created a global integrated campaign for the Clean Air Fund, using top tier global events like the UNFCCC COP29 as an opportunity to address and raise awareness of tropospheric ozone.

challenge

Tropospheric ozone is a powerful super pollutant and is responsible for 0.23 degrees of global warming, yet it remains absent from formal climate commitments and targets.

Addressing tropospheric ozone presents a significant but overlooked opportunity to accelerate global progress in combating climate crisis. Uniquely, reducing this pollutant would not only curb warming but also enhance air quality, protect public health, and boost agricultural yields.

Clean Air Fund wanted to take the lead in increasing awareness and understanding of tropospheric ozone to drive international and regional action that will reduce this harmful pollutant.

Solution

We supported Clean Air Fund in using UNFCCC’s COP29 as an opportunity to address tropospheric ozone.

Our integrated campaign ‘Action on Tropospheric Ozone’ included policy briefings in Baku to raise awareness and drive funding and policy commitments, alongside a live press office to raise awareness via top tier media coverage.

We also created a toolkit, evergreen social media assets and a video to help further communicate the dangers of emissions at COP29 and beyond.

"Forster has been a great strategic partner in helping us develop a clear messaging framework and amplifying the Clean Air Fund’s work on tropospheric ozone. This has helped us connect with our key audiences and secure top-tier coverage. We look forward to continuing this important work to drive change.”
